California almond grower Allan Fetters shares how SWAN Systems transformed irrigation on his challenging soils – turning scheduling into a simple, confident process
In West Fresno County, almond and pistachio grower Allan Fetters manages orchards with heavy clay soils and high variability between blocks. These conditions make irrigation scheduling complex and time-consuming.
To meet the challenge, Allan turned to SWAN Systems.
By monitoring multiple management zones remotely, Allan can now see how different areas of his orchards respond to irrigation – something that previously took hours of manual checks and guesswork.
“I utilize the water balance images that are provided on the dashboard… The SWAN system shows how each of those zones are responding to their water needs, so it becomes very, very powerful for me. The SWAN system has helped me maximize my resources. This has made the scheduling of irrigations a simple event versus a major time-consuming event that I had in the past.”
Because he lives several hours away from the orchards, remote visibility is particularly valuable. SWAN gives him the confidence to manage irrigation without always being on-site.
Allan also notes the support he’s received from the SWAN team during onboarding and throughout the season. Their guidance helped ensure the data reflected field conditions and gave him trust in the results.
With clear visibility of crop response and soil moisture, Allan has been able to simplify scheduling, maximise resources, and improve efficiency across his farm.
