At Nepenthe in the Adelaide Hills, Jurie Germishuys manages irrigation across approximately 1,600 hectares of vineyards for Australian Vintage. Those vineyards span multiple regions, each with different soils, climates and operational pressures. Bringing consistency to irrigation decisions across that footprint requires more than experience alone, it requires clarity.
In this conversation with John Pargeter, Key Account Manager at SWAN Systems, Jurie explains how bringing years of soil, climate and irrigation data into one platform has changed the way his team works. With optimised irrigation schedules, satellite imagery, and ongoing training and support, SWAN has provided a consolidated view of their operation. Instead of relying on information scattered across systems and individuals, the team can now interpret data more consistently and use it with confidence.
That consolidation has reduced their operational vulnerability. Irrigation management is a specialised role, and in large organisations staff movement is inevitable. Having data, history and scheduling logic embedded in the one system means continuity is maintained and decisions are supported, even as teams evolve.
For Jurie, improving irrigation efficiency is about precision and confidence. Water is scarce and valuable, and decisions need to be deliberate. From his office, he can review conditions and performance across diverse vineyards and feel assured that irrigation is being managed carefully and consistently.
After two seasons of using SWAN Systems, that confidence is evident. For Australian Vintage, SWAN has become part of how irrigation is managed across the business, supporting informed decisions at scale.
