SWAN Systems Expands Smart Water Management to Liverpool City Council
Perth-Australia June 18, 2025 — SWAN Systems is proud to announce a new partnership with Liverpool City Council, funded by Microsoft, which brings its leading, water management technology to local parks and green spaces. This collaboration marks a significant step in improving water efficiency and sustainability across Sydney’s urban landscapes.
Liverpool City Council joins Penrith City Council in adopting SWAN Systems’ data-driven irrigation and water management solutions. By leveraging advanced analytics and predictive modelling, the system helps optimise water use, reduce waste, and support long-term environmental goals.
“We are excited to extend our partnership network with Liverpool City Council,” said Tim Hyde, CEO of SWAN Systems. “This initiative reflects a growing commitment by local governments to use technology for better water stewardship, ensuring sustainable green spaces for communities while conserving vital resources.”
Smart Water Management for a Sustainable Future
The SWAN Systems platform enables councils to:
Improve Water Efficiency – Data-driven insights help deliver the right amount of water at the right time, leading to potential savings of 10%–30%.
Enhance Sustainability – Reduced water wastage supports climate resilience and responsible water use.
Support Green Spaces – Healthy parks and landscapes improve community well-being and urban cooling.
Liverpool City Council’s commitment to sustainability aligns with SWAN Systems’ vision of smarter, more efficient water use. By integrating innovative irrigation management, this partnership sets a new standard for how urban councils manage water resources.
Aligning with Global and Local Sustainability Goals
This initiative supports Microsoft’s commitment to be water-positive by 2030, which has five key pillars: reduce water-use intensity across global operations, replenish more than the company consumes in priority locations Microsoft does business, provide people with access to water and sanitation services globally, drive innovation and data digitisation, and advocate for water policy across the globe. It also supports Liverpool City Council’s Sustainability Action Plan, which focuses on:
- Reducing water consumption
- Improving urban greening
- Enhancing community resilience to climate change
Liverpool City Council’s CEO, Jason Breton, emphasised the significance of the initiative:
“This partnership with Microsoft and SWAN Systems marks a major step forward in Liverpool’s sustainability journey. By using data and technology to optimise our water use, we are ensuring a greener, more resilient city for future generations.”
Microsoft’s Water Lead, Eliza Roberts, added: “This project underscores Microsoft’s commitment toward water positivity by 2030 and our role in bolstering technologies that help conserve water and protect freshwater resources.”
